198. "Two apple-eaters..."

Two apple-eaters sat and had a singing-contest. One, a town-mouse, sang:

“In the space above the streetblocking,
I saw autumn unfolding—autumn unfolding
yellowy shots of taper-head leaf.”

His rustic cousin rejoined, after glancing to the side:

“Leaves stuck to a bit apple by wind—
there’s autumn in a line.”
